Roadtrip to Bristol!

This weekend saw one of our amazing instructors judge at the Bristol Pole Championships, an event that we have attended for the last couple of years! Last year our head instructor Zorena competed at Pro level and came first! This year we didn’t have any professionals competing, but one of our regular students (me) did take part, so we are going to hear from her and Lauren today about their experiences!

Lauren: Well, I was anxiously excited before the competition as this was the first adults comp that I have judged! I was proud to be representing Solent Fitness and Aerial Arts in the pole community. The competition itself was such a blur, I felt like I was concentrating hard all day!  The main thing that I was looking for was something that was interesting or different…  I have been to quite a lot of pole competitions, both competing and observing so I like to watch the exciting routines. A highlight of the day for me was seeing the high standard of talent from all the competitors and the amazing guest performers! (and a magician!)

Emily: So for me this was the third time I have competed in solo pole (despite promising that I never would) and I must say that it doesn’t get any less stressful!! I was absolutely terrified before the competition. This was also the first time that I was backstage without any of my pole buddies! Luckily everyone behind the scenes at Bristol were lovely, from the organisers to my fellow competitors and even a few fun human props we all had a great day!
My routine itself went pretty badly wrong… I hoofed the first spin pretty hard and ended up making myself so dizzy that I could barely focus my eyes for the rest of the routine! Even though the routine didn’t go to plan I still had a really fun time meeting lots of new people in the pole world! Something that always makes me happy at these events is just how nice everyone is to each other, my costume broke about 5 minutes before I was due to go on and I was rescued by a couple of the girls backstage who stitched me back into my costume with just a few seconds to spare!
